Local Historian Visits 5th and 6th Class

8th Feb 2023

We were absolutely delighted when LOCAL HISTORIAN and PAST PUPIL Pádraig Cumiskey got in touch with us recently to arrange visits with 5th and 6th Class. Pádraig has a huge interest in local folklore and mythology, which he says stems from his time as a young boy in our school. The old saying definitely holds true for Pádraig: 'Teachers plant seeds of knowledge that last a lifetime'.🌱
Pádraig has been doing a lot of local research and field walking through Cox’s farm at Lisnawully on Mount Avenue. He gives guided tours across the land and has found standing stones, Neolithic passage tomb art and a Megalithic tomb.
Pádraig first came to the school last week and did an introductory session with the two classes. The boys were totally engrossed with the local history and folklore. He came back this week and the group enjoyed a guided walk in the local area. From the interactions we have seen it is clear to see that Pádraig is now planting some 'seeds of knowledge' of his own in Redeemer Boys' School! 🌱 Thank you so much and we can't wait for your next visit Pádraig!!
